A Mother's Prayer

“My help comes from the Lord.” Psalms 121:2

Awakening to you.

A steady strength.

I know where my help comes from.

Lord, you give me peace and a confidence as you fight battles for our children and my husband and me. I trust in you.

When I jump ahead of you and project my ideas of how I see the pieces falling into place in the future, you bring me back to now.

Fully present, to appreciate the person in front of me for however long that may be, for I am only sure of this day... this moment as it is. May my life be an act of worship that honors you.

I know my weaknesses and shortcomings well. I know that the peace and the good that is in me is all you. My default is anxiety and the need to have all the details of the future decided. However, certainty is more impossible now than ever - parenting children that have a mind of their own, the state’s ownership of my foster children, uncertainties of my job, and my husband’s position due to cuts from COVID. You are my peace.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law, he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3 ESV

I choose to trust in you, Lord. I’m SO thankful for our life. The children I have in my life are such a blessing to me both at home and school. I’m so grateful to work with exceptional teachers and staff this year. I’m thankful that my husband gets to work at our children’s school. You have blessed me with a close family and real friends that pray for us and inspire us to have courage in this life. Thank you, Lord, for being our strength and for sending the help and the peace we need each day.

As I remember all the times you have stepped in to protect the children we love, I’m thankful. I’m overwhelmed by your mercy and faithfulness! Thank you for letting us be a part of your work, Lord. Raise up other protectors and advocates for your children, Lord. Help us to see the needs around us. Give us courage and fill us with hope for those in overwhelming situations. “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Nehemiah 8:10b
